About my Work
The creative process of painting and the challenge that each work presents is the driving force in my work. I find inspiration in nature, colors, patterns, life experiences and the very act of creating. My work is done mostly in oil on canvas or linen, but I also enjoy working in acrylic and watercolor.
In my landscapes I want to show the mood, mystique and atmosphere of the place. The Eastern Shore of Maryland, with its subtle beauty, provides unlimited subjects to paint. Since I spend winters in Naples, Florida the tropical environment with its beautiful flowers and light is always an inspiration for me.
My flower paintings are a celebration of nature’s colors and mysteries. I enjoy creating strong designs and color harmonies to show a flower’s personality. In all my paintings I focus on the underlying abstract design. This, of course, is most evident in my non-objective pieces.
Usually I approach an abstract piece with an idea and then find techniques and materials to capture the concept. I use texture to build up areas in my abstract paintings.
I want to record and share the beauty of life. I enjoy the act of painting and the happiness that painting gives me.
